In my imagination I imagine Queen Margrethe buying the tiara, and could wear it with the sapphire demi-parure. @JohnPete You absolutely can. I think the topic has been discussed before and I believe that none from The Royal Family would have the funds to buy. Or the interest? My generel impression is that Queen Margrethe would rather spend money on art than jewellery. And then there is the provenience! That is why I believe that the bracelet would bee a better choise if one would guess which piece could be bid on by one from the Royal Family. I comes directly from Queen Alexandrine, The Queens grandmother. But sadly I believe we will not see any of the pieces in the hands of the Danish Royal Family in the future. The tiara is a very practical piece. You only need 5 fairly moderate size stones to give it another use. I would hope the tiara does get bought by the crown prince for Princess Isabella. If she gets this tiara she has a piece that already has two versions. By adding 5 pearls she has a pearl and diamond tiara and if they can afford it adding the bracelet and 5 emeralds gives a solid base for a fairly grand set for the princess who in a few years will be 18. Considering the rather modest (both in price and appearance) diamond tiara Mary received for her wedding and the Edwardian piece Frederik acquired for Mary a few years ago, I doubt it. Well, it's a pity, but we're not really surprised about that, are we? It's not a historically important piece, after all. The large elements could be removable and used as brooches or pendants. It's not exactly a timeless design. I would want a young princess like Isabella to have a modern bandeau or tiara by a modern Danish designer. No doubt she will inherit some family pieces one day. The combination of the turquoises is amazing! I had never seen it before! Was is worn sometimes by Princess Elisabeth with the turquoises? Funny also that the base is rhinestones! I don't know if the Auction at Bruun Rasmussen is the late Princess Elisabeth's Will or this of the 3 Countesses Rosenborg. Nothing for the main House. It all depends on who inherited them. Im not sure about Danish succession laws. In my own country it would have been her remaining brother inheriting half of her estate and the three nieces a sixth each. In that scenario the four of them deciding to sell is not a weird idea. The brother has a few beautiful pieces that his wife wears on the occasions they do attend court. The countesses have three smaller tiaras they have been wearing for years. One was owned by the late princess. It could very well be that Princess Elisabeth herself decided on the auction in order to get the best price for her heirs. Whatever the case i hope Frederik has some money saved to buy these two pieces. I also hope the Danes will extend the family foundation so in future pieces stay with the House instead of ending up in auctions. The Countesses sold their Mother's tiara for 2.000 000 DKK .I saw the Auction on live because I am custumer of the Bruun Rasmussen Auction House and it was sold at its estimation Price. I wish the Danish Royal Family will bid to purchase it back, but I realize that’s very unlikely. Although they have made recent purchases through auctions, they have done so discreetly. That means the pieces might have been inherited by people outside the extended Danish Royal Family. In that case the Royals probably never had a chance to buy them outright. I don't think it would be bad if HM or the crown prince were to bid on the jewels. If they end up buying them we will know what they paid for it, but that is the market value so nothing to be negative about. It would be a different thing if HM made her intention to buy the jewels clear before the auction in an attempt to scare away potential buyers. According to the sales catalogue the tiara was a gift from her parents and could have been given to her for her 18th birthday in 1898. I have seen this information been "doing the rounds" out on the net by many even before the tiara came up for sale. Is there any reliable source for this information? I have tried to look for some kind of gift list in the press around the time of her 18th birthday, but I have not been able to find anything. However, what is certain is that her parents held a ball in her honour on her birthday. She was then described as being the only Royal lady not wearing any grand jewels, so I think it is safe to say that she did not wear this tiara to that occasion. Thank you for the link! Is it me or do the sapphires look paler in this clip than on the pictures. Their colour reminds me of Queen Juliana's cabochon sapphire earrings that her oldest granddaughter Princess Margarita wore for her second marriage. I do like this tiara very much. I hope it get's bought and used. Im not a fan of all these historic tiara's ending up in display cases in musea. That is not what they were made for. I am glad you liked the article Thank you for letting me know. The information to write it comes from Danish newspaper articles; mainly Nationaltidende and Berlingske. They used to bring rather extensive information regarding many royal events in the past. Sadly it seems like for instance her younger sister, Princess Dagmar, was not given such a splendid ball for her 18th birthday (probably because her birthday was in the middle of summer).
