The Princess Royal's triangular brooch - Royal Corps of Signals

The Princess Royal has worn this concave triangular brooch since at least the 1970's. Below it can be seen in an undated photograph and also at the Army Foundation College Harrogate, England in 2010.
I feel certain that this brooch must have been presented by the Royal Corps of Signals, of which HRH is Colonel-in-Chief, due to the fact that every other appearance of the brooch I have been able to find besides the two above can be identified as a visit to the Signals, as seen in the ten photos below.
It was most recently seen back in September when HRH visited troops to thank them for the role they played in her mother's funeral. As you can see in the video below, the brooch was not worn during the first visit shown which was to the Royal Logistic Corps but was worn to the subsequent visit to the Signals.
None of the newspaper archives to which I have access have provided any additional information. Perhaps some of you can find confirmation of its provenance as well as what type of stone it contains. It usually appears to be a dark brownish color with paler inclusions. However, in the far right photo below it appears to have an intense blue hue.
Interesting brooch, Baxter. I have no answer, and cannot see any logical connection to the military regiments (they usually have a brooch with their badge).
I have another question regarding a necklace worn by the Princess Royal for the Olympic reception last week. I can't remember this from earlier, does anyone know it? Is it sapphire and pearl beads?

In 2017, this brooch was identified as an Andrew Grima brooch.
I do not have any more information. Sorry.
