I cannot remember an event where any of the ladies of the Dutch royal family wore a tiara in the Caribbean part of the kingdom. Usually they stick to smaller pieces. though Maxima used some of the sapphires from one of the sets of bracelets once. So far it's been modern personal pieces but we still have a number of days to go. I highly doubt it. Its a very informal visit. When they are in the Caribbean part of their realm their Majesties want to limit formal dinners and such as much as possible so if we will see diamond stud earrings, a brooch, bracelet or a modest necklace, count yourself lucky! Not specifically from the peoples of the Netherlands Antilles as far as I know. Its fair to say that not until Queen Juliana have we witnessed a genuine warm interest of the royal family in the Netherlands Antilles and Surinam. Previous monarchs were more interested in the Dutch East Indies, which were far more expansive and brought (relatively and nominally) more riches to our shores than the West Indies. True appreciation for the West Indies only started with Juliana. As far as we know Queen Wilhelmina and Queen Juliana only received a few jewels from the East Indies: Wilhelmina received a diamond set Gold crown from a ruler (Sultan) on Borneo (Kutai) and Juliana received a huge diamond set bracelet from the inhabitants of the East Indies. Queen Wilhelmina received as a 'national' gift an extraordinary diamond and sapphire parure for her wedding in 1901 but I am not sure the inhabitants of the then colonies also contributed. Other jewel gifts: From the VOC Governor of Ceylon to Prince William V of Orange-Nassau

Interesting collection of Sri-Lankan jewels from Surat gifted to Prince William V by the Governor of the VOC in Ceylon around 1750. Princess Royal Anna of Hannover placed them in the Orange-Nassau cabinet of curiosities. They were donated to the new National museum in 1885. They are now in the collection of the Rijks(museum). These are her private pearl jewels: cultured pearl necklace and pair of earrings that can be worn in different settings. Maxima has bought and received many expensive jewels besides the vast amount of costume jewellery she acquired over the course of her marriage. That bracelet has unfortunately been broken up (in the 1980s) into various smaller jewels. Most notably two smaller bracelets which are worn very often. They have been made from the (side) elements of the original. Also the large central diamond in the Crest has been set in a ring and the two Garuda birds were said to have been converted into brooches but we have never seen them. Previous Message Thank you.
