As I mentioned over on the History of Famous Jewels and Collections Board, I personally think the Royal Collection has it wrong (wouldn't be the first time).
A "Lessor George" was the depiction of St. George slaying the dragon that hangs from the Garter sash at the hip.
The "Greater George" is the St George medallion that hangs from the Garter chain - often enameled and bejeweled (as is this one!).
This would be a mighty impressive Lessor George and if so, I would like to see the accompanying Greater George.
The fact that the RC also says that it is a "collar badge" leaves me to believe that it really is a Greater George.Cheers! Bryce

The King arrived with one and left wearing the other - but that has nothing to do with the confusion over the correct name of the latter.
