At tonight’s Spanish State Banquet at Christiansborg Palace, Queen Margrethe II is wearing the Danish Emerald Parure with the Collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece (which she received in 1985 but is wearing for the first time tonight) Queen Letizia is wearing the Spanish Fleur-de-Lys Tiara  with Queen Sofia’ Sapphire Earrings, Fleur de Lys Brooch, and Queen Victoria Eugenie’s Diamond Bracelets and the Order of the Elephant.  Crown Princess Mary was wearing her Diamond Necklace Tiara and Diamond Flower Brooch with the Order of Isabella the Catholic Princess Benedikte wore the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg Fringe Tiara and Queen Alexandrine’s Diamond Sautoir with her Diamond Flower Brooch as a Pendant.

Does it look like it has a yellow sheen to it? Could it be tarnish? Or, perhaps it is yellow gold mixed in with the white metal? Queen Margrethe's hairdresser did not quite hit the nail on head with the placement of the emerald tiara. The middle emerald was not placed in the middle and the tiara looked like it was croocked on the Queen's head.

Would have wished that Queen Margrethe would have worn the bottom part of the brooch on the necklace - in stead of the necklace's own pendant - because that part has the same design as the earrings Or the bottom part as a brooch in stead of the brooch she wore.

Its a very, very modest piece. More metal than stones to put it bluntly. Appropriate for her daughters but its time QMII grants her access to some of the other pieces like the Khedive tiara... The Khedive belongs to Queen Anne-Marie now and actually there are not too much tiaras Queen Margrethe could loan to Mary as the danish royal Ladies don't share their tiaras and Margrethe has not much either. Crown jewels: 1 Emerald parure 2 Diamond parure (aigrette tiara) House collection: 3 Pearl Poire parure Personally owned: 4 Baden Palmette diamond tiara 5 Diamond floral tiara (loan to princess Marie) 6 Modern poppy tiara 7 Nassut gold tiara 8 Turquoise chicory flower tiara/bandeau She may not have as many as the Queen of the UK and the total collections of Sweden, the Netherlands and Luxemburg might be bigger but she owns or has access to quite a few pieces. A saudi gift. The picture is from a gala reception for King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia in Madrid. The set comprises, at least, also a bracelet with large sapphires. Queen Sofia wore also the bracelet at that gala, and also some years ago in Thailand for the birthday celebrations of the late King Bumidol. Queen Sofia owns several of such jewelry gifts also from Oman, Jordan... Queen Letizia also some jewelry from Qatar... Pearls, black pearls, sapphires, rubis, diamonds, canary diamonds, at least 2 sets with turquoises... I believe several of those pieces have never been worn in public.

Many of the Middle Eastern gifts (in general) have sub-optimal designs and are rather gaudy imho. But never look a gifted horse in the mouth. QEII was quite practical and had many gifts converted. Well they did and they are all flimsy.... This weeks royal auction had some stunning pieces but they would need to spend a bit more.... Well! Count Ingolf and Countess Susie has in a interview said that they have deceided what will be done with their properties etc after their death. I believe the childless couple do not lack money.. He said they also have deceited which things should return to The Royal House. Let us hope for the tiara to return. Well Princess Thyra's tiara was not that expensive but neither HM nor the crown prince felt the need to buy it. Where it could have been a great addition to Mary's collection and in future would work well for any of their four children. I fear Queen Alexandrine's diamond drop tiara now with countess Alexandra of Fredriksborg is lost to the main line. Princess Marie's tiara will in time revert to the main line. Her son and daughter will have to do without any major pieces. I get that the Danish Royals aren't billionaires but spending a 100.000 dollars or euro's now will safe them spending a lot more in 10 years time when Christian and his siblings will have use of tiara's. Princess Isabella is not that far off from her 18th birthday and she'll need a tiara. I doubt either one of the Queen's sisters is going to hand over a piece of their jewels as they have titled offspring themselves, meaning a new piece is needed unless Mary is going to hand over her wedding tiara to Isabelle. With only three tiara's that are her personal pieces Mary has not enough to hand over to her four children. Margrethe has a little more but unless they adopt the Swedish and Dutch system of sharing pieces the next generation is in dire need of some jewels. Previous Message It would be wonderful (and sort of logical in my view) that Queen Alexandrine's fringe tiara would return to the main line, as the meander bracelet. I do hope it will happen sometime in the future. Its a beautiful gesture of the Count and Countess, and shows their respect for the intitution. A pity that the relations between the two branches were not that fluid for many years, and eventually some of the main pieces ended up being sold at auction. It still breaks my heart that Queen Alexandrine's sapphire tiara (from Pss Caroline Mathilde and Countess Anne-Dorte) ended up sold outside the royal family. It would have made a beautiful new sapphire parure together with the Queen's sapphire set, all pieces coming from Queen Alexandrine's collection.

The Midnight Tiara is also a good example why I believe they cannot allow themselves to spend lager amounts on jewelry. The tiara had a pricetag of around 110.000 £ as far as I remember. My intention is not to miscredit The Royal House. But just to point out that there might be a natural and understandable reason why we do not seen the family buying heirlooms back, or adding new to the collection as often as one might wish for. Yes, I think so. They have the “lösörefideikommis” trust and I would have liked them to place a major part of their heirlooms here for future generations. Anyway I also think that they should place all official gifts here. I mean presents given that celebrates the institution. Fx a Jubilee or from an offial visit. Well some Danish pieces could return to the main branch like the Khedive and Queen Sophia's Pearls & Stars tiara. The pieces originally belonging to the Greek or Berleburg branches can be used at will for social events attended by the non-reigning houses. Previous Message I dunno. Exactly! Why gifting when sharing is such an obvious option. Follow the Dutch example and put everything in a Trust chaired by the monarch. Members of the Family who want to use an heirloom can. The monarch may reserve certain pieces for use by the Queen or mainline. This system works since 1963 and exempts the owner from taxes, another big advantage!
