Korean state visit to the UK

The state visit of the President of the Republic of Korea and his wife to the United Kingdom started today with the traditional welcoming ceremony at Horse Guards. The Queen wore a sapphire and diamond brooch previously worn by Queen Elizabeth, but not I think by the present Queen. It is not the Albert sapphire, which does not have the golden setting around the main stone. I seem to recall this was identified as one inherited from Queen Mary and also worn by Queen Elizabeth (consort of George VI), but am not quite certain. The Princess of Wales wore sapphire earrings an inheritance from the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

Burmese Rubies for the Queen

The Queen is wearing Elizabeth II's Burmese Ruby tiara with the Crown Ruby necklace this evening -- along with the QEII family order with what appears to be a significantly modified bow/ribbon. Queen Camilla was wearing the brooch bought by Queen Mary from Empress Marie Feodorovna of Russia. It has been worn by Queen Mary, later by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, then QEII and also by Queen Camilla on a previous occasion at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in March 2023. There were several spectacular Tiaras worn at tonight’s Korean State Banquet at Buckingham Palace! Queen Camilla is wearing the Burmese Ruby Tiara and Queen Victoria’s Crown Ruby Necklace The Princess of Wales wore the Strathmore Rose Tiara for the first time Princess Anne wore her Diamond Festoon Tiara, Festoon Necklace and Diamond Bow Brooch The Duchess of Edinburgh wore her Aquamarine Necklace Tiara The Duchess of Gloucester wore her Diamond and Emerald Bandeau Tiara and Emerald Necklace In the morning, Queen Camilla wore Queen Mary’s Russian Sapphire Cluster Brooch while the Princess of Wales was wearing Princess Diana’s Sapphire Earrings.

Queen Camilla's QEII family order

I think Queen Camilla is wearing a larger size of the QEII family order. Perhaps the one worn previously by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

I must admit that this ruby tiara was never a favourite of mine on Queen Elizabeth - but somehow it looks much prettier on the head of Queen Camilla

Beautiful! As many others I wasn´t very fond of the Burmese Ruby Tiara long time, I found it clumsily designed. In recent years I have revised this opinion somewhat, but now I think it's great. The open shape, which looks so much better on the queen, makes the tiara even more attractive and is a real eye-catcher. And quite regal. What a surprise! How old are the last photos of it? 80 years? When was the last time it was worn? Sometimes it was questionable whether the piece even still existed. The Queen and Princess of Wales both wore flowers for the Korean visitors. That doesn't necessarily mean anything, but it is a meaning that the royal ladies are having another look in the vault, as the Duchess of Gloucester brings out the Art Deco tiara again. The royal splendour is obviously being polished up. This gives us hope that we will also get to see other things at some point. I'm hoping for some long chains. If I've counted correctly, this is the fourth tiara that DOW has worn: Cartier Tiara, Lovers Knot, Papyrus and now Strathmore Rose. I would love the Sunray Sapphire Tiara and the Turquoise Tiara worn by Princess Margaret, should it have gone back into the royal vault. Previous Message Really looks amazing! And Catherine also! I like to see this tiara in the present day but i do feel it's a bit too young for Catherine. I think it will be a great tiara once Charlotte turns 18 but i hope she'll get something more substantial once she grows older. I do think it would make a nice wedding tiara for Royal brides. Duchess of Gloucester at the Guildhall Banquet

The Duchess wore the Gloucester Honeysuckle Tiara and Topaz and Diamond Jewellery from Queen Mary at the Banquet hosted by the Lord Mayor and City of London for the South Korean President and First Lady at the Guildhall tonight.

Catherine is not that old yet . And though I think I know what you mean I must say that it looked very fitting on the Princess of Wales. Maybe it was just the WOW factor that has been clouding my vision, but I think it is actually good that the Princess is not always seen in larger, "heavier" tiaras. The smaller tiaras can definitely also be worn by her without problems (my opinion of course). If the smaller tiaras is only to be used for weddings and for 18 year old Princesses then they are not really worth the while. Don't get me wrong; I think it would look fabulous on Princess Charlotte once she starts to attend these "grown up" events. Don't get me wrong smaller tiara's like Catherine's wedding tiara or the pearl lotus tiara are fine for all ages. But the Strathmore rose tiara looks young to me so it would suit young princesses and brides better than Catherine. Somehow the tiara ages her in a way the others she's worn do not. I am curious to see it with the 5 central diamonds replaced by 5 sapphires. That would change to look and possibly the feel of the tiara. Previous Message Catherine is not that old yet . Previous Message Indeed I believe the 5 sapphires would upgrade this tiara. Perhaps also adding a diamond riviére on the base. And the Pss of Wales could perfectly pair it with her sapphire earrings and ring and create a sapphire suite.
