The modest dark-blue sapphire demi-parure worn by Queen Anne was her mother’s. Previous Message Did Queen Anne inherit jewels from her Mother Princess Margaretha of Denmark/Bourbon Parme and her Mother in law princess Helena of Greece ?

Did not Queen Anne tell someone that she inherited the sapphires from a Danish aunt? Meaning that they did not belong to her mother. And Queen Anne’s mother Princess Margrethe of Bourbon-Parma in old age often told journalists that she had to sell all her jewels - so for gala events she had to borrow jewels from Princess Margaretha (wife of Prince Axel). Meaning that there really was not any jewels for her children to inherit. The Romanian Greek key tiara is from the Romanian royal family.

We did an article on the Jewels of Queen Anne of Romania last year to mark the centenary of her birth! From her mother-in-law, Queen Helen, Queen Anne inherited the Romanian Greek Key Tiara and Queen Helen’s Fleur-de-Lys Brooch, which are still worn by her daughter, Margareta, Custodian of the Crown of Romania. From her mother, Princess Margaret of Denmark and Bourbon-Parma, Queen Anne received a pair of Pearl Earrings, which were originally a gift from her own aunt, Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia. They were auctioned off at Sotheby’s New York in 1986.
