Last 23rd April, the newly-elected President of Finland, H.Exc. Alexander Stubb, paid his first State visit to Sweden.
On the occasion of the State dinner at Stockholm Royal Palace, Princess Sofia of Sweden, Duchess of Värmland, donned a new version of her (much-versatile) wedding tiara. As you know, this tiara has already experienced a lot of alternative gems at the top (emeralds, pearls, topazes, turquoises...). This time, the tiara was topped by a new set of large pear-shaped blue stones (possibly sapphires, though I am not really sure).
The other royal ladies were perfect, as usual , all of them dazzling in diamonds: Queen Silvia with Queen Sofia's Nine-Prong Tiara, the Vasa earrings and the medium-size diamond riviere, Crown Princess Victoria with the Connaught Laurel Tiara, the floral diamond earrings and a smaller diamond riviere, and Princess Christina with the Connaught Loop Tiara and a necklace of her own collection.
I really love how Sofia played with so many different 'toppings' of her tiara.
But the Laurel tiara and Victoria is every time the same. I hope to see more different tiara on her. Not almost every time the same.

I’m not sure what other options there are for the Swedish royal ladies, they all have access to the same collection of tiaras so that’s what leads to a certain amount of tiara fatigue, at least for me. We’ve seen them wearing the same pieces for decades, with some occasional moments of novelty. I doubt their husbands can purchase new tiaras for them, so they have to wear the Foundation jewels. It’s very democratic isn’t it? They all can wear the grand jewels, except for the Braganzca which only HM wears. I also think the sapphires are reserved for HM? and the Napoleanic golden diadem is considered too fragile for wear now.

Magnificent photos from the State Visit in Sweden for the Finnish President.
Regarding the new gem stones in Princess Sofia's tiara I read on Twitter that they are London Blue Topazes rather than Sapphires. The dark blue hue was a perfect combination with the dark blue Sash of the Finnish Order of the White Rose. I just wish the Princess had worn it with a proper updo since the long flowing hair was a distraction imo.
Even the First Lady of Finland wore a spectacular piece of jewellery around her neck. The necklace is said to have contained 126 Diamonds set in 18 carat gold and the largest stone being a Heliodor sourced in Ukraine. Estimated value of the necklace: 100.000 euros.
The white gown of the Crown Princess was ok. But it had probably worked better if she still only had the Grand Cross of the Order of the White Rose because then she would have worn the dark blue Sash (Finland's flag is as we know white and blue) instead of the Collar. Maybe if whe had worn the Aquamarine Kokoshnik tiara it would have added a bit more blue to make it a white / blue combo.Kongetro
