On Monday 25th November Queen Mary of Denmark unvailed a statue of Countess Danner, the morganatic wife of King Frederick VII of Denmark.
At the unvailing the Queen was seen wearing a brooch pinned to her coat that has not been seen publicly on her or anyone else in the Danish Royal Family. It turns out that the brooch is part of a set that originally belonged to the said same Countess Danner.
The set is part of the collection at Rosenborg Castle where the Crown Jewels are also kept and consists of two brooches, a necklace, a pair of earrings and two bracelets. Created in gold the pieces are set with citrines, amethysts, diamonds and pearls.
Whether we will see this brooch worn again (or any of the other pieces) is anybody's guess, though I don't think we will. It was still a very fitting outing and I would not mind if we do get to see it worn again. It is always interesting when old jewels are taken out from their display cases and actually worn again.
Nice to see and what a surprice considering her somewhat moderate use of jewels.

Re: Queen Mary of Denmark wearing an antique brooch
I think that set might also work for some of the black tie events there are. It is nice to see this historic piece work and a very fitting tribute to the countess.

Re: Queen Mary of Denmark wearing an antique brooch
This is fun news! I had hoped that this demi-parure might someday be used again, or pieces of it. Perhaps an expert examined the pieces and determined them to be of sufficient durability that they can be worn? I love the brooch, and while I would have liked the drop on it I’m glad it was selected. Perhaps we will see it or other pieces of the parure again in Denmark!

When I saw the parure at Rosenborg a few days ago, both the brooch and the earrings were missing - so I assume we are going to see the Queen with the earrings at some point.
