TM King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands are on a State Visit to Kenya. The visit got criticism because of the Human Rights violations last year when people protested against the raising of taxes. His majesty addressed the issue at the first possible moment and he and the Queen had a conversation with young Kenyans at the Dutch embassy (safe ground) in order to hear their concerns. The Netherlands is one of the bigger investors and trade partners of Kenya.
Tonight the State Banquet was held, Queen Maxima opted for the Sapphire necklace/tiara with sapphire and diamond earrings. Her gown is a bit of a miss in my eyes. I love the skirt gold with blue flowers (worn for Prinsjesday and the celebrations in Norway) but she now matched it with a different top and the blue of the top does not match the blue of the skirt. Both are lovely but as a set less successful.
As for the jewels, it is nice to she HM in something other than the diamond bandeau or the emerald tiara. Im still hoping she'll discover the Bandeau a la Grecque and the ears of wheat. Both are not very grand but stunning parts of the collection. I'd also love to see new additions: Amethysts, turquoises, pink topaz, or a diamond and citrine tiara would all make a nice addition to the Orange-Nassau collection.
The queen did look gorgeous but I hope to see a good photo soon about the combination,

Re: Dutch State Visit to Kenya - Full Stomacher (!)
this bracelet is one of two made for Queen Emma to go with her sapphire tiara, a stomacher and the Tiara Maxima is wearing when it was still a necklace.
Another set was made for Wilhelmina and the tops of the tiara Maxima wears came from the necklace of that set. The stomacher she is wearing was worn with this wedding gift set but was not part from it. The tiara of the wedding gift set and most of the necklace were broken up to make smaller pieces for each of Juliana's four daughters. The earrings Maxima wears are part of the jewels made for Beatrix. The ones she wore for her husband's investiture were made for Margriet.

As gorgeous as HM The Queen of The Netherlands looked with her jewels (I disagree with the blouse not fitting to the skirt, the difference in colour is most likely due to the fotoflashes) - truly every single piece of jewellery is a feast for the eyes, I still wonder: when ended the custom, not to wear tiaras to black tie events? HM somehow looked a bit overdressed.

Re: Dutch State Visit to Kenya - black tie and tiara?
O come on please! No complaining about tiaras and black tie. Its a state diner / banqet!
I'm glad Queen Maxima wears most of the time a tiara during black tie. Also did Queen Beatrix during incoming visits when the dresscode was black tie.

Not only the Dutch royals. Many of the black tie events of the Danish royals also include the women wearing tiaras.

Re: Dutch State Visit to Kenya - black tie and tiara?
And Queen Elizabeth II was also famously wearing "the whole shabang", tiara and all, at black-tie events. From my notes that goes as far back as 1972 at least, when the Queen wore tiaras to the black-tie events in connection with the State Vist to Singapore and possibly even further back though I have not been able to check that.
