I was wondering what people know or think is possibly about the inheritance from Queen Elizabeth II. Princess Anne has been reportedly wearing jewellery from her mother specially one of her pearl necklaces which looks more impressive than her own, and there have been reports about Kate wearing something similar. Anne has also continued to wear the Marie Feodorovna pearl collar and the Queen Mary City of London necklace on several occasions. Charlotte wearing her horseshoe brooch at the funeral is also of interest though we cannot for certain know when she received it but it could be that QEII gave comparable gifts to other family members. Has anyone noticed a particularly new pattern of jewellery wearing among the RF since the death.
I have long suspected that the arrangement is that the jewels belong to the Monarch or Crown (depending on the piece), may be used as a "life loan", but remain the property of the Monarch, personally or officially. The monarch decides who may wear what. That ensures that pieces do not leave the collection, don't get sold for taxes etc., and the various royals who would not otherwise afford the pieces or insurance, can wear them.

I think what you are saying is probably true of the bigger more known and publicly worn pieces but I do wonder what she might have wanted for her family. Clearly the younger generations wear jewellery less but she would want to leave her family something. Clearly they have trust funds so might they have some money each but perhaps also a few mementos. Might not be just jewellery, a faberge box here and a cartier clock there. Would it be Charles’ decision. With such a large collection it could stand a few losses. The three main items given to Princess Anne were either unknown and publicly unworn or not fully in the collection. I do hope some pieces are given and worn often like Lady Sarah’s pieces.
Surely QEII also had jewels which were her own private property? Such as jewels gifted by her husband and parents. Those she could have divided among her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at her own discretion. She also had private wealth.
It would be Charles' decsion on most valuable items as the Monarch leaves most possessions to the next monarch, so there are no death duties etc. payable. As the capital transferance tax, etc. could come into play, "life loans" are the more normal method. As to the late Queen's personal jewellery, it would depend on what she considered hers and hers alone, versus what she considered her as queen (outside of the Crown Jewels themselves). I would imagine that some items were given directly to certain recipients, either during her lifetime or in her own will. For example, she might leave the Grima brooch gifted to her to an individual but would not do the same for the Girls of Great Britain tiara, despite both being hers.

With the exception of pieces that are considered belonging to the crown Elizabeth II could have left pieces to various members of the family. In the three years since her death we have not seen any of the grander pieces being left to someone other than the new King. So it seems she chose to keep the jewels together as Dmitry and Nellie have stated. It looks like they have found a version of the foundations in existence in Sweden, Denmark or the Netherlands and now manage to keep the jewels together and available for Royal duty without the risk of the pieces being sold in time.
