Queen Elisabeth of the Belgians with her daughter, Princess Marie Jose, and her daughter-in-law, Princess Astrid, Duchess of Brabant at the Bal de la Grande Harmonie, 1927.
The three women were in their evening wear and tiaras on top of their head. Queen Elisabeth (center) wore her Diamond Cartier Bandeau. Princess Astrid (left) wore the full version of the Nine Province Tiara, a wedding gift from the people of Belgium. Princess Marie-Jose (right) wore a diamond and pearl tiara inherited from her grand aunt, Empress Charlotte of Mexico, born Princess Charlotte of Belgium.

I thought Marie-Jose inherited the pearl tiara from her grandmother Marie, countess of Flanders who had inherited it from her first cousin Carola Wasa Queen of Saxony. Both were through their mothers granddaughters of Stephanie de Beauharnais, Grand Duchess of Baden who was the original owner of the tiara.

What’s that stone Queen Elisabeth has attached to her Cartier bandeau? It doesn’t appear to be the large emerald, as this one is set in diamonds.

I think the aquamarine that is later worn on the diamond bandeau by Elisabeth and later Marie-José of Italy as Tiara and by her granddaughter as necklace.

Each lady wears a pearl sautoir. Such a ubiquitous look for a lady of means in the 1920s. What do you suppose became of those grand ropes of pearls after the fashion for pearl sautoirs died out? Perhaps simply cut down to make smaller necklaces?
How sad Princess Astrid was looking and I don't like Princess Marie José speaking to her Mother behind her flowers! Thanks to Hans.

The sautoir was a present from her aunt, Empress Sisi
