the first time that dress was worn was in 1975 when then Princess Beatrix and prince Claus attended the independence celebrations of Suriname.
50 years later it is worn by a third generation. I think only queen Fabiola and the Princess Royal had/have a habit of wearing pieces that are decades old. Though in Sweden Madeleine wore an old white evening gown of her mother for the evening of her wedding and in Norway Ingrid Alexandra has been recycling some of her mother's gowns.
In the Netherlands Princess Margriet has worn the gown her mother wore on the evening of her investiture in the 1980's and she also wore a gown of her grandmother Queen Wilhelmina in the 1960' or early 1970's.

I think recycling looks is an excellent, excellent idea. These dresses must be very expensive to begin with, getting multiple outings in it makes such good economic sense. A family as wealthy as The Oranges surely have their own tailor that can transform a look from one ladies measurements to another. Another royal lady who has success with this is Princess Anne of the UK, she still wears her old looks from the 80s and 90s, supposedly same measurements too!

Not only sharing jewels but also dresses…
I never noticed that Queen Beatrix wore a diamond riviere with the dress!
