1. Why did Princess Margaret never received the Garter 2. Why did Princess Michael and the past Duchess of York never received the Family Order. 3. The actual Duchess of Goucester received the Garter. She will be the very last for the moment 4. For William Generation , Peter and Zara, Beatrix and Eugenie, louise and James will not be working Royals and seen at Official glittering events. Such as no one Child of the Duke of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent, Princes Alexandra and Prince Michael. They all will have great jewels ...

1. Why did Princess Margaret never received the Garter: it was generally given to reigning (foreign) queens only. British queens didn't receive it until Queen Alexandra, and then Mary and Elizabeth followed. Giving to it other princesses/royal duchesses was quite a break from tradition.
2.Why did Princess Michael and the past Duchess of York never received the Family Order. Who knows? It's considered a mark of the giver's esteem, so we can read what we want into the fact that those ladies didn't receive it.
3.The actual Duchess of Goucester received the Garter. She will be the very last for the moment. I bet Charles will give it to Catherine.
4. For William Generation , Peter and Zara, Beatrix and Eugenie, louise and James will not be working Royals and seen at Official glittering events. Don't rule James and Louise out yet!

I believe the late Queen never awarded any honours lightly.
1. Margaret - I always believed the late Queen did not think her sister was up to the mark publicly and privately. About a year after Margaret died (a suitable interval) the late Queen honoured Princess Alexandra with the Garter. Alexandra's reputation was unblemished and the late Queen rightly recognised her life of royal service and duty, but only after the much higher ranking Margaret had passed away.
2. Those two were not real "working royals" as described today.
3. I agree that Catherine will be the next royal lady to get the Garter, if not from Charles then William for sure when his time comes.
4. We will never again see so many great glittering events. I'm sure William is not enthusiastic about them, and he had great influence over Charles's coronation ensuring we enthusiasts had no opportunities to drool over loads of glittering jewels and gowns. (I thought the head ornament worn by Catherine was dreadful!)

I would disagree about Sarah. When she was married, she had a full slate of regular royal engagements. Marie Christine has always been involved in charitable work, but it was not included in the Court Circular.
QEII seems to have become more liberal with honors to her family as she got older. She did give Margaret the Royal Victorian Chain, which is rarely given.

I understand and needed to explain more in my response. Sarah had a shortish career as Duchess before the divorce. It is quite possible that the late Queen could see that she was not likely to function up to the required standard. For Margaret and the RV Chain I always thought it was a bit of a compensation prize! And Margaret received, and wore both the male and female versions of the insignia (not together of course).
