I’m glad it was recovered. Perhaps the thieves realized the helmet’s value is due to its provenance, and not due to the materials it is made from. The helmet is made from electrum, an alloy of gold and silver, not pure gold alas. Electrum was commonly used for ornaments in ancient times.

At two this afternoon in the Netherlands there will be a press conference about the fact that the golden helmet and two of the three bracelets that are part of Romania's national treasure have been retrieved 14 months after they were stolen. The helmet has been damaged (as the thieves dropped it when they stole it) but it can and will be restored.
I hope this may also happen to the jewels stolen from the Louvre.
