I have also been waiting to see more details on who will be attending. But with only the Scandinavian cousins attending it will still be a very glittering gathering. I just quickly checked both the official programme of the Norwegian and the Danish Royal Families on their websites and I discovered that from Denmark the King and Queen will attend in the company of Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte. From Norway I doubt that there will be more than one Royal lady attending (the Queen). But I am now very curious to see if representatives from the other monarchies will attend. I suspect they will, just like they did for the King's 70th birthday. And since the Swedish Royal Family seem to maintain a close relationship to many non-ruling families we can hope that members of those families will also attend. Not as big as the 80th birhday celebration. There will be a Service of thanksgiving in the castle Church a carriage ride and a Tour with the Royal Barge Vasaorden. With Maxima it would have been one of the larger pieces with Beatrix the only thing we know for sure is that it won't be the Stuart tiara. The only tiara from the collection im certain of she won't wear is the Stuart Tiara every other tiara remains an option, though im guessing it will not be one of the bigger pieces. That leaves plenty of options. She does seem to have simplified her hair a bit and it's flatter now so that means a tiara looks different on her now than when she was still the reigning sovereign. I still think its a bit odd only Beatrix is attending. Same situation in Spain. It would have been nice had they coupled Leonor with Sofia and Amalia with Beatrix... Both young princesses are also combining some representation for the monarchy with a fulltime study or defense training, it might be a bit too much to ask to also join your grandmother to celebrate someone's 80th birthday. Both Sofia and Beatrix are of the generation of the Swedish King and that makes them appropriate representatives of their countries if for some reason the King and Queen have other things to do or as I think is the case in the Netherlands: if the older generation is going we don't have to. In Spain I get the idea that both the King and Queen try to avoid as much as possible the more glittering events unless they are making a State Visit to another monarchy. I noticed there was a breach of protocol tonight. King Harald V and Queen Sonja are the longest reigning foreign monarchs and as such placed next to the King and Queen of Sweden. However it was not Queen Mathilde but Queen Mary who was placed on the other side of the King. Did the Dutch and Spanish Royal couples not attend to leave space for the Danish Royal couple to take a more central space?
