Re: Embarrassing "
I've lamented the faltering artistry of Santana for quite some time, though I wouldn't say I felt embarrassed, just let down. I had high hopes with the releases of Guitar Heaven & Santana 4 but then (after hearing them) going away with the feeling of "here we go again." I feel that Milagro was the last really solid studio album worthy of the Santana name & artistic legacy (which was about 25 yrs ago). Although the Santana Brothers lp was more of a solo project it still compared much better with the earlier material than any other studio release having come along ever since. I've pretty much given up on waiting for that illusory "next" album to come along & revive that down in the gut classic Santana sound (it seems that Carlos simply sees fit to remain in his comfort zone). So, other than sticking with the classic Santana material (up to & including Sacred Fire) there are many other great acts you should check out. Many of these artists have been on the scene for quite a while bringing forth freshly innovative & intrepid artistry within the universe of Latino rock, soul, reggae, ska, hip hop & other experimental fusions such as Ozomatli, Quetzal, Aterciopelados, Lila Downs, Ocote Soul Sounds, Brown Out, B-Side Players, Fabulosos Cadillacs, Locos Por Juana, Sidestepper, Los Mocosos, & Bang Data. I'm sure to remember several more groups later but right now it's late & I'm feeling my age LOL. Peace out!!
