Only 2 compilation albums got higher, The Singles Album was No 2 in 1975 and the 25th Anniversary Album was No 3 in 1978.
I Owe It All To You is beautifully produced, the orchestra is superb and DSB sings well throughout.
The choice of material is inspired, Beyonce's I Was Here, Lady Ga Ga's I Dont Know what Love Is, the excellent title song, infact there isn't a duff track on the album.
The new arrangements of Almost Like Being In Love, Music and You Aint Heard Nothing Yet work well, and all sit together making an excellent package.
DSB has done some great work over the years and like many stars has had missed opportunities. Get The Party Started would have been a top 10 single if it had been released over Christmas 2006 when the M&S advert was running (never mind it was a No 6 album the following year)
The Performance contained some outstanding tracks, The Girl From Tiger Bay should have been a major hit single and No Good About Goodbye would have been a great theme for Quantum Of Solace, for example. However, for me I Owe It All To You sits together as a package even better than The Performance did, and that was great.
As many have said Hello Like Before needed to be remixed, and thank goodness it wasn't DSB's final album. That said, I'm Still Here, It Was A Very Good Year, and Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend are enjoyable tracks.
But with I Owe It All To You, everything has come together well, its classy, reflective and even fun in places (Look But Dont Touch). It is well paced (Nick Patrick has done a superb job) and a fitting Grand Finale to the wonderful DSB. Its so good there may even be an Encore??
With DSB you never quite know.
