I have just sent the following message to Dame Shirley’s website, but thought I would also post it here as it mya be of interest to other fans. Here is what I wrote.
This is a message for Dame Shirley to ask if she happens to remember a man called Robert (Bobby) Thompson from Clapham, back in the 1950s. Bobby was my godfather, a very close friend of Mike Sullivan, through whom he met Shirley, and he used to have a house at 13 Rodenhurst Road. Shirley often came there with her dog (‘Beaujolais’, who liked to jump in Bobby’s pond), and Bobby occasionally mended her clothes, which Dougie Darnell would bring to his house.
I ask this because, before he died, Bobby told me his life story, and I have recently published it in book form. His memories of Shirley are few, but they are there, and I wondered if she would be interested in receiving a copy? I would be more than happy to send one if given a suitable address.
The book is called, ‘Bobby, a Life Worth Living’ and is released under my penname, Jackson Marsh. Either way, I hope to hear from you.
Many thanks,
James Collins
