This movie (which you probably never heard of,) was released in '93 and failed miserably at the box office which is sad because it is such a great movie with an all star cast. I don't think it's initial run lasted more than 2 weeks; probably because the story deals with seniors and it didn't have any sex or violence. It's the story of 2 retirees in a sleepy Florida retirement community who form an unlikely friendship. One is a refined, well spoken, retired barber (Robert Duvall,) and the other, a former merchant ship captain who is the other side of the coin. Hard drinking and obnoxious, he's superbly played by veteran actor, Richard Harris.

What makes this movie so special to me is Duvall's performance. I caught it after it had been on for about 10 minutes and missed the opening credits. I watched the entire movie and didn't realize it was Duvall in the starring role until the end credits (no fancy, on-screen guide at the time.) That's how good his accent and makeup were, not to mention his acting. I'm a major Duvall fan and it still floors me that I didn't pick up on him sooner. This film is in my top 5, which is very unusual for a color film and I highly recommend it. Very touching movie about dealing with regret and trying to find some measure of happiness in the twilight years of ones life. Sounds depressing but give it a chance; also has lots of comedic moments, too.
