The Mayberry Grand: A Very Good Film

I wanted to mention a very good film that I watched some time back. The only reason I watched this film was because it had a horseshoe pitching scene in it but I got way much more.

Why did it not interest me otherwise?

1. I didn't really have much interest in Mickey Rooney.
2. The title of the film just doesn't do anything to excite you into wanting to see it. What a terrible mis-leading title.

Why did I like it?

It really is a fine "slice of life" small town atmospheric film. You really sense that. This is an aspect or innocence of a movie that I really do enjoy. Movies about friendships and family. This movie has that in large quantities.

The actors are just great and a lot of familiar names pop up:

Frank Morgan
Donna Reed
Van Johnson
Robert Mitchum
Don Defore

...and Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer!

This film isn't really much of a comedy but more of a drama. Good story. A great watch. This should be a classic annual watch!
