The Smiling Ghost (1941)- Plot: A rich woman hires a third rate detective to become engaged to her granddaughter for $1000. He comes to find out that her three prior fiancés have met with a terrible fate.
Really fun horror/comedy/mystery along the lines of "The Cat & The Canary" or "Ghost Breakers". Good cast and a well made film.
Night Has A Thousand Eyes (1948)- Plot: After phony stage mentalist, Triton, mysteriously acquires supernatural powers of precognition, he becomes frightened and abandons his act to live in anonymity. EDWARD G. ROBINSON!!!! Really good film! William Demarest of "My Three Sons" fame plays a detective.
The Woman In The Window (1944)- Another Edward G. Robinson film. He wrongly tries to cover up a self defense killing done in the apartment of a woman he admired in a painting. This would not a good outcome for a wealthy married man. Fun ride!
I Married A Monster From Outer Space (1958)- The title of this one really does fool you but this is really a straight-forward serious science fiction horror film. Right in there with some of the best in my opinion. A couple of small town women marry two friends who normally like to hang out in the bars, chat and drink while debating about settling down. Unbeknownst to the town, it is slowly being taken over by an alien race of men hoping to figure out a scientific solution of continuing their species by mating with human women.
All 4 are gems. You can't go wrong with any of these!
