This film didn't turn out to be as I expected. I expected more shenanigans to be had, more thriller aspects. IMDB classifies it as a drama, mystery and thriller. Definitely more of the first two. The last 20 minutes progresses into thriller territory. This movie is long for 1937, 1 hour and 56 minutes. Not a lot happens. Three primary characters, all unique, all acted very well. Pretty much four secondary characters. This turns out to be more of a character study, each one opens up more as the film progresses. Not a lot really happens but it does hold your interest pretty well. I'd rate it about 5.5 out of 10. I wanted more out of it, but I don't regret watching it. Not one I'd really go back too anytime soon. Robert Montgomery won an Oscar for his role, I read, and this film was a critical success.
