: With all due respect to the other powerful
: characters in the Marvel Universe, there
: have been too many times over the past few
: years where Wonder Man is seen fighting in
: one panel, and then he is show laying on the
: ground defeated in the next panel. I'm glad
: that Wonder Man is being used so much, but I
: miss the days when he was the fun loving
: invincible character that would accidentally
: swallow a shrunken exploding weapon that was
: at the bottom of his bowl of chips. Wonder
: Man is meant to be one of the most powerful
: characters in the Marvel Universe, but
: lately his invulnerability has been
: significantly reduced, with no real
: explanation. I hate to say it, but over the
: past few years, it feels like Marvel has
: allowed their writers far too much freedom
: to depict characters in whatever way they
: want, regardless of historical accuracy or
: realistic approach, because the writers
: "have a story to tell." It feels
: like there have been many stories that
: completely disregard any attempt to make
: realistic sense with historical Marvel
: universe. Many of these stories would make
: great "What If" stories, but there
: is no way that they should be considered
: historical Marvel history. Three big
: examples of this trend are (1) the vomit
: that was World War Hulk (there is no way any
: of that would have ever happened in
: mainstream Marvel), (2) the ret con that the
: Beyonder is an Inhuman, from the Illuminati
: series (which ABSOLULTELY is not true), and
: (3) the ret con reveal that Gwen Stacy had
: Norman Osborn's children while in Europe (do
: I really need to say anything about that?)
: It worries me, because I have collected
: Marvel comics for over twenty years now, but
: I feel like they are losing focus similar to
: the early 90's right before the near
: collapse. Similarities? Killing off too
: many characters, at times whimsically (too
: many recent character kill-off's to
: reference), too many short series' for
: irrelevant characters that no one is reading
: (ie: Silver Sable and Fortune, etc.), and
: jacking up the prices (to the recent
: outrageously high price of $4.00 an issue
: for a regular monthly series.) Seriously,
: someone needs to find the real Wonder Man
: and send him over to Marvel to knock some
: heads around and get things cleaned up.
:
: On another note, I seem to remember Wonder
: Man's powers changing a bit at the end of
: his own series. Does anyone know if these
: changes were temporary or permanent? I seem
: to remember him being stronger and handling
: the Hulk pretty well in those issues, but
: now I bet (according to his current
: characterization) he'd be dispatched by the
: Hulk off panel. Any thoughts?
