I agree. Funny that while Electra gets a full Mighty Avengers issue dedicated to how she went down taken by the Skrulls when she is not even an Avenger Wonder Man got one panel in the latest Secret Invasion battling his Skrull impostor. I saw the previews for Mighty Avengers online and I still haven't bothered to go to the comic store to pick up my issue. Perhaps if next week we get an Echo centric story, a Jarvis or a Jessica I can take Mighty Avengers off my pull list until the Secret Invasion related crap with other characters that I don't really care about that much is finished and we can get back to the Avengers.
I mean it is nice Bendis is telling an interesting story but most people buy Avengers comics because of the superhero group dynamic and it has been months since the last time the book had that.
--Previous Message-- : : Iím at the point now where Iím totally and : completely disgusted with the Avengers : comics and this whole Skrull Invasion in : general. On top of the 70s Beast getting : revealed to be a Skrull, Mighty Avengers was : once again turned into a goddamn flash back : issue so now we can see how the Elektra : Skrull got in power. WHO GIVES A FLYING : S#!T?!?!? My God how much lamer can this : get? : : Hey, letís spend a whole freaking issue on : when Jarvis was replaced by a Skrull while : weíre at it and not show anything that : progresses the storyline forward or heaven : forbid show any actual Avengers action! : Letís see 22 pages of Jarvis cooking, : cleaning, shopping and then watch in horror : as heís replaced by a Skrull even though : weíve known for months he was one and : couldnít care less how he was replaced at : this point. Oh but then weíll reel in shock : as The Skrull then spends the rest of the : issue standing and talking to the other : Skrulls at night telling us crap weíve : already known! See Skrull Jarvis cook an : omelet for Ares! Hear him boast to his : Skrull conspirators that heís mastered the : art of scrubbing the mildew off the bathroom : tiles! Thereís a white knuckle ride through : hell if I ever heard one. : : WAIT, Dum Dum Dugan! We canít forget heís a : Skrull as well. Letís spend a whole fifth : issue seeing how the Skrull that replaced : him did so at his favorite haberdashery : right when he was getting a new derby for : his big fat head. 22 PAGES OF RED HOT HAT : BROWSING EXCITEMENT FOR 4 BUCKS!!!! I want : at least three pages of Dugan trying on : different hats while the sinister Shop Clerk : Skrull shape shifts slowly behind him for 18 : panels. PLEASE BENDIS, CAN YOU WASTE MORE OF : MY TIME AND MONEY ON THIS ABSURD OBESSION : WITH EVERY MINUTE DETAIL OF THIS NEVER : ENDING JOURNEY THROUGH FLASHBACK HELL? GET : ON WITH THE STORY!!! : : You know I previously complained that this : is another Clone Saga in the making but I : was wrong. This is by far much, much worse. : At least when I was disappointed in the : Spidey Clone storyline, I could go to one of : the many non-Spidey titles to catch a break : or at the very least there were a variety of : villains I could look forward to in whatever : Spider-Man issue that was coming next. Sure : the Jackal was the main bad guy of the whole : thing, but many new and old Spider Foes got : involved and I could at least be content : with that and the fact that if there was a : flash-back occurring, it was rarely if ever : more than a few pages. NOT THE ENTIRE DAMN : BOOK AND NOT THREE FLASHBACK ISSUES IN A : ROW! In this the majority of titles have : Skrulls in them and we see them fighting the : heroes or whatever and then we get to see : more Skrulls. : : Before you say,Ē Well it is an alien : invasion by the Skrulls so there would have : to be Skrulls involvedĒ I realize this, but : this is all weíve been shown. Where are all : the other super villains in this mess? Why : canít we see them battling these freaks as : well or better yet see the actual Avengers, : who are supposed to be the stars of their : own damn titles, beating the living green : s#!t out of this ruffle-chinned : mother-effers. So far Ms. Marvel seems to be : the only title Iím reading that the main : character isnít absent and the current : storylines and characters have been : incorporated in the current invasion. And : you want to know the best part? Not one : issue is filler for an extended directorís : cut of a flashback. : You know, Iím at the point now where Iíve : canceled several Marvel titles because of : this garbage. Itís like not one single : editor in the entire Marvel staff can : control or at the very least guide some of : these writers into telling a compelling : storyline. Iím all for artistic expressions : and freedom of speech. These things are a : must to tell any story be it fiction or : non-fiction, but you need someone there to : say,Ē Okay, this story is good, but lets : keep it moving. Youíre providing way too : many details and flash-backs to keep it : interesting. We need just enough to keep : things rolling. We canít bog people down : with minutia.Ē : : The one sin a writer or any entertainer : should never ever commit is boring the : audience. This is where Iím at now, Iím : bored and I feel my intelligence is being : insulted on a weekly basis by Bendis and no : matter what Avengers titles I try to escape : into heís managed to bog it down with this : ponderous storyline. This is the same reason : I left DC Comics behind. Every great title I : was reading slowly became ponderous and : boring and didnít seem to go anywhere and : then those monster crossover events started : wrecking the few titles I enjoyed and wiping : out characters that had been my favorites : for years. Iím actually down to just Justice : Society of America at this point and an odd : issue of Batman depending on which villain : in showcased. : : Right now the only title I can count on to : tell me a compelling story that leaves me at : the edge of my seat issue after issue is The : Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman. It is the : only Image title I buy and itís worth every : damn penny. If Avengers was written half as : well as this title weíd all be in a lot : better shape. My only complaint about his : series if you can call it a complaint is : that it always ends on a cliff-hanger that : drives you insane until the next issue : because you canít wait to see what happens : next. Thatís how any and every comic should : be. I should be pulling my freaking hair out : in between issues because the suspense is : killing me, not because Iím so angry at the : title I feel like ripping my own head off : and firing it at the book. : : --Previous Message-- : I was disappointed that the 70's Beast was a : skrull, but not as disappointed in issue #4 : overall. When I bought it, I thought it : felt thin, so I figured it must have had no : advertisements. Wrong. To my count, there : were only 22 pages of content for the $4 : cover price. Plus, it was pretty lame to : see 70's Beast die in one or two panels by : getting shot. Where is the drama in that? : Overall, I think this was, by far, the worst : issue of the series. Nothing really seemed : to happen and the issue was way too short. : : :
