How did you guys ever get the impression, much less become so thoroughly convinced, that Bendis is a big Simon mark and has huge plans in store for him?
I really don't get it. Every sign points to the contrary.
I know it isn't what you want to hear, but the most probable reality is that he tossed Wonder Man on the Mighty Avengers to placate old-school Avengers fans who had been complaining that his New Avengers was too radical a departure from classic Avengers (that was the whole purpose for the book, really), and then he couldn't keep his own interest and had to turn the MA title into a monthly Avengers-less showcase for Bendispets.
If I were an ounce more cynical, I would be convinced that Bendis came up with Mighty Avengers solely as a way to "prove" that classic Avengers aren't as good/popular/liked as his New Avengers re-envisioning of the franchise. I could honestly believe that before I would believe that he harbors a secret love of Wonder Man bubbling just beneath the surface.
