I have the Chausson symphony on a very nice disc from Australian Eloquence, which also includes his Pelleas & Melisande suite plus the Penelope prelude.
My favourite set of Mendelssohn piano quartets is by the Schubert Ensemble, but I imagine Domus on Virgin are pretty good too (they did a fine version of the Mahler as well, in their set of Brahms piano quartets).
Thank you both for your recommendations; I agree with many of them; however, I do not know the Chausson symphony or the Mendelssohn piano quartet and have ordered them accordingly.
My own little list could include Sibelius' Andante Festivo, Mahler' single piano quartet movement, some of Mozart's early symphonies (such as nos. 1, 5 and 42) and No. 25 as a supreme masterpiece, Boccherini's "La musica notturna delle strade di Madrid", Puccini's "Crisantemi" and the under-performed "La rondine" and the best neglected opera, Saint-Saens' "Samson et Dalila".
