I have admittedly not heard either Rob Maynard's nor Ford's prime recommendations for the Chausson symphony (Ansermet and Denzler) but have instead bought Jordan and Plasson - and although Armin Jordan is fine, I find the latter superior in every respect. I certainly enjoy the symphony but especially like the little known "Viviane" and hear lots of echoes of Debussy's "Pelleas et Melisande" and "La mer" crossed with Wagner.
As much as I loved it, it was not enthusiastically reviewed on MusicWeb in 2008 (http://www.musicweb-international.com/classrev/2008/nov08/Chausson_7478942.htm), but I would myself rate it much more generously.
Thank you for taking part in the MusicWeb International Forum.
