Re: Sir John Barbirolli (conductor) The Complete Warner Recordings
I'm with you Michael! The idea of these great performances in enhanced sound is very tempting but not at this price or sheer volume of discs! I admire Barbirolli for sure but not every single thing he recorded........ Previous Message Am I alone in regretting all these massive boxed set reissues? In so many cases there are discs that I would love to have but I simply don’t want to spend a hundred pounds or more on a collection which includes many CDs I already possess and others that I don’t want. The Barbirolli Edition is just another in a long line and a perfect example: I have his Mahler, Sibelius, Delius and more but would like to add much else, especially some of the early Pye recordings, but I’m not going to buy the box! Why can’t the companies adopt the pattern that, for example, EMI/Warner used with Klemperer’s recordings and issue a series of themed sets? They’d surely sell more discs as I don’t think I can be alone in resisting these hundred-disc monsters.
