Michael and Nick, I too doubt the efficacy of these super-jumbo sets - please see the last para in my separate post headed Bruno Walter: The Complete Columbia Album Collection (below). I totally agree with Michael that EMI/Warner did it better when it issued all their Klemperer recordings in a series of themed boxed sets of manageable size. Sony did it even better with their mid-1990s Bruno Walter Edition: 39 discs in standard jewel boxes* distributed between four slip cases, each case sold separately and at a discount. Not only that, but each CD was available individually at a somewhat higher price per unit. Complete flexibility for the purchaser, something the industry no longer appears to find necessary. *Yes, I know jewel boxes take up more space that those cardboard sleeves, but they're much kinder on your CDs.
