I still miss disc timings in reviews, I feel it gives the reader an idea of the performance overall! So, Reading John Quinn's review of the Schubert, I was happy to see, despite hie earlier arguments against them, full comparison with the conductors earlier recording, it's a pity this doesn't happen more often!
The idea of leaving the review to check timings on Presto's website is ridiculous!
Am I alone in disliking MusicWeb’s new method of indicating the timings of discs? Not so much the plain single figure as the seconds don’t matter that much, I suppose, but I do want to know how long the individual works on a disc last!
Something that’s irritated me for many years is that too many companies give you the total disc timing and timings for all the individual movements, variations even, but much less often the timing for the actual work as a whole. I rarely listen to a disc containing more than one symphony, concerto, quartet, whatever straight through and want to know how long the individual work lasts. I’m sure I’m not alone!
