I too love dogs and grew up with several. My family has owned around 7 dogs dating back since I was back in grade school. I have a huge amount of respect for K9 units dogs working in the military, security, & LE. I myself almost chose to convert to Master-At-Arms(Navy equivalent to Military Police) just so I could try out for K9 school when I was in the Navy but chose another career path instead.
Reading some comments, seems that Zig Zag did not gain any sentient intelligence when given the Nova Force so she(just found out dog was female) is exactly like a military working dog. I can probably live with that as there really is nothing wrong with that idea.
I'd have rather preferred a dog like Cosmo be a Nova Corps dog and fully use the Nova Force to its potential.
While there is some truth to a "Nova Corps Branding Concept" keeping the MU Nova alive, it should only be a temporary short-lived concept and not take away from Richard Rider who the current Marvel regime behind the curtain has kept back and is telling everyone is dead and buried. The fate of Rider as clumsily and hastily told in the mostly uneventful GOTG Vol.2 Original Sin arc was not complete, totally off-base and out of touch. Nothing "touchy" about it, unless, Duggan meant the last issue.
I hear that Peter Parker will be giving up the Spider-Man title, become a mentor to Mile Morales, and then end up passing the torch. If we loyal Richard Rider fans seem disgruntled, we are a walk in the park compared to the disgruntled Miles Morales fans who are far worse, vulgar, nasty, etc. Marvel is catering to the Miles fans because
Stan Lee recently commented about the issue. Pretty much what many of we "hard-core" Richard Rider fans have been saying all along, right along the same lines: “It has nothing to do with being anti-gay, or anti-black, or anti-Latino, or anything like that,” Lee said. “Latino characters should stay Latino. The Black Panther should certainly not be Swiss. I just see no reason to change that which has already been established when it’s so easy to add new characters. I say create new characters the way you want to. Hell, I’ll do it myself.”
While we more conservative Nova Prime Richard Rider fans don't all agree with all the political correctness and kowtowing going around in comic books, we do not hate anybody in general. Its not about "hate". We do not have to submit to the kowtowing Kool-Aid like everybody else is punch- drunk on.
