N/T: but from 1274 until 1619 the age of majority for men in Norway was 20 years.
From 1619 until 1869 it was 25 years.
From 1869 until 1969 it was 21 years.
From 1969 until 1979 it was 20 years.
From 1979 to present day it is 18 years, for both men and women.
Crown Prince Harald’s age of majority was in 1958 when he turned 21, see the Royal Court’s photo:
In the Netherlands there were official dinners with the government for Juliana and Beatrix. Not for Willem-Alexander or Amalia. The dinners for Juliana and Beatrix were without foreign representatives.
It is the tradition in Norway to host a gala banquet for the 18th birthday of royal children. There were such banquets for Prince Harald, Princess Märtha Louise, Crown Prince Haakon and most recently for Princess Ingrid Alexandra.
(though the celebrations for Prince Sverre Magnus may not be gala, as he is a Prince but not member of the Royal House)
I seem to recall similar banquets for Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim of Denmark, is that correct? There were no such banquets for Princes Nikolai and Felix, but we will possibly see one for Prince Christian two years in the future.
Were there similar celebrations in other monarchies previously?
