Thank you for highlighting this, as I was about to do the same.
A dinner was also held at the Royal Palace back in 1924 when Crown Prince Olav, later King Olav V, reached 21 years of age. It was a grand occasion with most of the official Norway represented. So it is a tradition I hope will continue!
Even Princess Märtha Louise's 18th birthday was celebrated with a gala dinner at the Royal Palace hosted by her grandfather King Olav V. So I am really hoping that Prince Sverre Magnus will not be treated differently compared to his sister (after all, she is not yet first in line to the throne) and aunt - though something tells me that I am probably hoping in vain.
As for the dinners in Denmark; as we have seen Queen Margrethe's own 18th birthday was also celebrated in grand style with a gala dinner. On the other hand, from what I can remember, Prince Joachim's 18th birthday was just celebrated with a "mere" black-tie dinner.
And I still remember my great disappointment over the realization that no grand banquet was held for Crown Princess Victoria when she turned 18.
