    Re: Dowager Tsarina Archived Message

I am trying to locate the jewellery from the Imperial collection which was in the possession of the Dowager Empress. I cannot remember for the life of me if this necklace and/or tiara were at the Anichkov at the time the inventory was made. It was not part of the jewellery with which HIM left Russia. I know that there were some considerable amounts of jewellery from the Treasury in her possession at the time of the Revolution. Once I find that list, I will know a little better. It is here somewhere....

: So these must have been left behind, and not
: brought out with the Empress when she left
: Russia in 1919 (?). Would they have been in
: the Kremlin, or the Anitchkov?

: The necklace and tiara were quite separate.
: The loss of this collection is a tragedy on
: par with the loss of the French Crown
    : Jewels.

: Yes, I see crossed swords as well. This
    : photo
: is mesmerizing. Red is a powerful statement
: and the fur? Lovely. It could be worn
: today. Is this tiara extant? Is the
: necklace and tiara one in the same?

: Thanks so much for sharing this photo.

: I think of swords every time I see this
    : set...swords = violence...so barbaric
: feeling you get is not so far fetched
    :
: I have never seen both tiara and necklace
    : worn together...has anyone?

: It was part of a suite of jewels, including
    : a
: matching diadem. It was unusual in its
: design and relatively adventurous for the
: time. It had a certain barbaric splendour,
: as did so many of the Imperial jewels.
: Somewhere, there is a lovely portrait of
: Maria Feodorovna wearing the tiara, with a
: red dress, if I recall correctly.

: After seeing part II of Roal Jewels, and the
: comments on this board about the Russian
: Royal Jewels, I found this lovely photo of
    : the Dowager Tsarina.
: The lowest necklace was most interesting.
: Is anything known of it please?
