Re: duchesse de Vendome- SAPHIRS Archived Message

The Duchess of Montpensier has her own pieces. She received a diamond and saphire necklace/tiara for her wedding and she may have inherited some pieces from her family. Her daughter Marie wore a fringe tiara for her wedding that wasn't from either the family of her husband or from the Orléans.
I do find it rather sad that the late countess of Paris left her jewels to different children. Had she left the grander jewels as one collection the current countess and the Duchess of Vendome would have had more choice and better pieces to represent the family.

Still her husband could have chosen to keep at least one of the two sets he inherited. He however prefered to sell them.

: The parure from Queen Hortense was sold to
    : the
: Louvre, not given. I have notes somewhere
: about it and will dig in later.
    :
: I believe these earings are a different set
: that was purchased at the sales of the
: Bijoux de la Couronne in 1887. How they got
: to the duchesse of Montpensier is not clear
: but i would think they were part of the late
: Countesse de Paris collection as she is seen
    : wearing them.
    :
: I dont have a picture of them, but the set
: from Queen Hortense is a bit smaller.
    :
: Also, looking at the old pictures from the
: sale, it seems that the earings could have 3
: sapphires and the top one seems to have been
    : sold separately or removed.
