There is no information about those earrings in the new book, so our theory that they came from Queen Mary's brooch is still unconfirmed.
In regards to the style of the earrings worn at the State Opening, I would say aesthetically they are antique, in the style of the late 18th of early 19th century. A very similar pair of earrings from c.1800 are on sale at S J Philips.
Which begs the question as to where these jewels came from? Old family pieces that have laid unworn for two-centuries, seems very unlikely. A new mystery.
