I really must get the Delhi Durbar panel finished At least one has an outline that strongly suggests a cap.
--Previous Message-- : Nellie confirmed my guess, that it is a cap : and hence the details of the tiara are much : better visible than simply against the : background of the photographer's studio. : : I tried to enlarge a detail from the : discussed portrait and one can well see the : cap: : : : : : --Previous Message-- : Ah! Thank you for the info, Nellie. The : photograph is a good example of clearly : showing the cap, then. : It must have looked more than a bit odd in : real life though... I wonder what it was : made of - black velvet or felt, probably. : : --Previous Message-- : : Boris - more than once I have read that the : tiara was worn with a cap - as for a coronet : or crown. : I have collected lots of pics of it and mean : to put them together to show the tiara from : many angles in Delhi. : : : --Previous Message-- : Actually, I'm rather wondering about the : backing of the Delhi Durbar tiara in this : photograph... : Is it due to a retouching process in order : to bring out the tiara's outline more : clearly (I don't think so), or is the tiara : actually worn here against a very dark : background sitting like a top hat's crown on : Queen Mary's head?
