    I have a newspaper cutting from that actual day and it describes the brooch as
    "12 Tay pearls in a bouquet of ferns and grasses set off with amethyst stones."

    So I agree, I see no sign of 12 pearls (that were local so would feature prominently) nor ferns and grasses.
