Someone cut the Queen's hair very short during the tour. Like the jewels, that also set her pattern for the future, though it was a trip to Canada (I think when she opened the St. Lawrence Seaway) that inspired her hairdresser to get rid of the part and style the top of her 'do' as it is now, with symmetrical waves above her face. She had to keep the profile look for the stamps and currency, but she did manage to get her curls from the 1940s to the very early 1960s, and there they have stayed ever since. Perhaps wearing Queen Mary's tiaras in 1954 inspired the shorter cut, or perhaps it was the heat.
