Thank you for this image LittleMo, from my notes, this must be the brooch that Field mentions on page 34, as "a diamond Scottish thistle surmounted by a carved amethyst ‘brush’”.
This is the first time I have seen an image of this brooch, many thanks, although the origins and provenance of this brooch are unclear to me.
--Previous Message-- : I thought that maybe the brooch in the car was : this one, worn in the 1950s in Balmoral, and : in 2009 to the Royal Highland Show : : : : Or you can see it here if you scroll down : : : http://www.rexfeatures.com/search/?kw=queen+elizabeth+thistle&search_newest.x=0&search_newest.y=0&iso=GBR&viah=Y&lkw=&stk=N&sft=&search_oldest.x=-1 : : : --Previous Message-- : : There was an article in the Daily Mail : recently that shows HM wearing this brooch : on a drive home from church with Prince : Philip. I caught a : glimpse of it in person today, as Leeds is : my home city, thus I went out to stand in : the crowds. : : Although I failed to place it. I checked the : lists I know of official gifts and wedding : gifts to The Queen and other members of the : royal family, yet no description matches, : especially not one from the City of Leeds. : : Although, it is of course possible that this : brooch was a gift from the city of Leeds to : The Queen at some point or another; perhaps : her visit to the city in 1977. This is the : most likely explanation, which explains why : it hasn't been seen before now. : : : --Previous Message-- : On a visit to Yorkshire today, the Queen : wore : a brooch which appears to have some sort of : Tudor rose design, possibly in diamonds and : rubies. I don't recall seeing it before -- : do we know anything about it? : : : : : The bottom half of the design looks quite : interesting. : : : : : : : : :
