IMHO this is not a controversial view as I share it. QE II's sapphire tiara has basically the same issues as the Norwegian amethist tiara - I believe we're just so used to its sight that the 'upside down necklace' effect isn't as apparent as it would be when seeing the piece for the first time. Princess Louise also wore it as a corsage ornament to great effect. The verdict about the Napoleonic amethyst necklace/tiara in Sweden I have to disagree with though. I'd definitely file it under 'The Good' albeit it has to be placed carefully and backed up by a good hairdo due to a (unnecessarily) clumsy base - a major current problem with Court Jeweller Bolin's designs. As a necklace, it is cumbersome and chunky, as a circlet tiara I like it very much - a good decision on Queen Silvia's part IMHO.
