...And Queen Sofia's Niarchos rubi necklaces / tiaras Archived Message

Just remember another "not that Good" example, Queen Sofia's Niarchos rubi necklaces, a long string of cabochon rubies and diamonds that can be very versatile, by making several diferent lenght necklaces, bracelet and also two versions of small tiara. The rubies were a wedding gift by Stavros Niarchos to the then Princess of Greece, they were designed by Van Cleef and Arpels. I must say these are not my favourites, but anyway I prefer the two row version. If placed on the right frame to have the elements neatly arranged it would be quite a nice tiara. Just scroll down (I hope I am allowed to place this link here) http://dinastias.forogratis.es/los-rubies-niarchos-t1007-84.html A short version of the necklace at the prewedding of Princes of Asturias in 2004 http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/britains-prince-charles-kisses-the-hand-of-queen-sofia-of-news-photo/50885242 This piece was much advertised by Van Cleef and Arpels, I remember an advertisement photo where a famous actress (don't remember who it was...) wears the complete lenght of the rubies. I doubt this piece was an exclusive jewel. Carlo has just posted on the thread bellow (on the greek jewels of Queen Sophie) a colour picture of Pss Marina, wife of Ps Michael of Greece wearing a similar set. In the link above there is also a black and white photo of Marina with her rubies. This is totally new to me, I did not know that there was another similar rubi set worn by a greek princess. --Previous Message-- : Thank you Boris! That is the one, great you : had it in your archives! Like you said is : perfect for less grand events, and still : very elegant in my opinion. : : Once again I must say I really like it! : Beautifully placed on the head, perfect : hairdo, definatelly a "Good" to : me. : : However I am not sure if HM would wear it as : well today, most likely the small tiara : would be hidden by the Quuen's hair... it : would look very well on Pss Mette Marit if : she would wear her hair up. : : Well If we think about it, if the bracelet : has enough length and flexibility and is a : beautiful piece, if its put on a proper : frame, if is placed on the head in the right : angle and if the lady wears the hair up, : then I believe almost all bracelets could : became very nice small tiaras! : : : ...And while I was typing this post I : remembered another good example: Duchess of : Alba Ansorena bracelet / bridal tiara. : Lovely, plain elegant and understated. : : Here you have Ursula's page on it : : : http://www.royal-magazin.de/spain/diadem-ansorena-bracelet.htm : : : : : : --Previous Message-- : Great that you remembered that one - in the : photo below, it looks like a very good way : to wear parts of the emerald parure in a : less grand manner than with the large tiara, : although details are difficult to make out - : perhaps someone has a clearer pic? : : Crown Princess Sonja: : : : anonymous image hosting : : : : --Previous Message-- : In the 1970's Queen Sonja wore an emerald : centered bracelet as tiara. I've searched : and found no picture of it, but I remember : seing a photo and I actually like it. Much : better, in my opinion, than the "Star : Treck"... : : GD Maria Teresa's aquamarine tiara is : actually a bracelet. I find it lovely as a : small tiara for a junior princess, it would : look beautiful on the princesses. Personally : I think the GD looks her best wearing the : belgian tiara, the floral ivy leaves tiara : and the Cartier tiara. : : And yes, those aquamarines are absolutely : gorgeous! Such lovely pale blue colour. : : : : : : : --Previous Message-- : Golden Poppies and the Art Nouveau birdcage : tiara of Queen Marie are certainly unusual, : but not necklaces or bracelets worn as : tiaras. : Although, I suspect the poppies could be : detached and worn on a necklace. : : Here is one of my opinions on a 'good' : attempt at necklace-as-tiara. Grand Duchess : Marie Adelaide is wearing a strand of pearls : as a tiara/hair ornament. Modern royal : ladies should try this once in a while, with : the right coiffure it might look : magnificent. : : : : Here is a one that I haven't decided if I : think is a good or a bad. Not sure if this : is a bracelet or tiara. Lovely stones, : though. : : : : : --Previous Message-- : Explanation please! : : --Previous Message-- : Ohhh the golden poppies! I'd forgotten these : ones. Definatelly not my favourite head : gear... I just think the poppies could be : arranged in a more appealing way, perhaps in : a frame, like the new greenlandic gold tiara : of the Queen (that I am eager to see her : wear btw). : : : : : --Previous Message-- : The Ugly....Not HM, just the head piece : : --Previous Message-- : Not exactly a tiara, but timely: Imre of : Austria's bride seems to have worn a pearl : necklace as part of a bridal headdress at : her wedding on Saturday in Washington, D.C. : Very pretty, understated and subtle effect, : with a stunning veil. : : : : : : : : : : http://www.tageblatt.lu/people/story/Erzherzog-Imre-heiratet-Kathleen-Walker-20077640 : : --Previous Message-- : A few years ago I started a topic named : after : a famous old American movie, the goal was to : stimulate discussion on the various : successes (or lack of) when royal ladies use : necklaces or bracelets as tiaras. Since : it's been so long, I thought maybe it might : be fun to resurrect it, especially since we : have new members on board and possibly new : sources of lovely photos. : : Like last time, I'm afraid my nominee for : worst attempt at wearing a necklace as a : tiara has to be for the late Grand Duchess : of Luxembourg and her sapphire : necklace/tiara. To me, it's just all wrong. : Nothing about it makes sense, sorry to say. : Perhaps it is instead a tiara sometimes : worn as a necklace? It is a very confusing : piece to me. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
