Thanks Carlo, I never heard that story before! Really amazing... one wonders what treasures remain forgotten in the vaults... Pss Elizabeth was given the top part of the tiara and the base in separate cases. Pictures from the wedding gifts show the two pieces displayed separately. So it seems likely the base was stored away and forgotten, as she wore only the top part in the following years. "Granny's tiara" is my favourite tiara of the Queen. It suits her perfectly and is a very beautiful piece.
