    Re: Tiara Frames Archived Message

Posted by Boris on September 27, 2012, 2:07 am, in reply to "Tiara Frames"

As previously discussed, the frame of the Khedive tiara was unfortunately altered by Queen Anne Marie a few years ago to its present state, in order to sit higher on the head.
The bold bars which elevate it are indeed not a pretty sight, and IMHO neither is the fact that the tiara now hoovers above the wearer's head instead of sitting on it.
As for an 'explanation' for not constructing a more unobtrusive solution, I'm at a loss.

: I never noticed this before but the Khedive
: Tiara sits rather high on it's frame,
: doesn't it? Can someone please explain why
: these tiaras are set so high - even in this
: day and age? We see those horrid frames more
    : often than not.

: Thank you Carlo for posting all the lovely
: photos and reposting my cropped image of my
    : favorite Khedive tiara
    :
: I always thought of "swirls" as
    : eternity symbol...and I just searched and
: found the definition of Egyptian swirls,
: which is the universal pattern of growth and
: evolution...in this case, when it was
: presented to CP Margaret during her wedding,
: I believe that symbolically it meant
    : "Eternal love"...it is beautifully
    : designed tiara by Cartier.
    :
: Can you tell me who designed the 1st tiara
: you posted? The swirls are flipped and the
: overall heavy look of the tiara gives me
: impression that it might not be Cartier.

: We all know that the Khedivé of Egypt gave
    : the
: Cartier tiara to Princess Margaret of
: Connaught on her wedding to the Prince
    : Gustaf Adolf of Sweden.
    :
: I recently bought the fabulous DVD in two
: episodes about the Royal Jewels of Denmark,
: Sweden, Russia and Great Britain and I
: followed once more the story of this tiara,
    : very interesting.
    :
: The pattern of the tiara must have a
: significance for Egyptian culture or
: religion, because I found a photo of a jewel
: of the Egyptian RF with the same motif.
