    It has the setting of a nice brooch, but it is rather dated in it's design. The small flowery elements surrounding it are very 30s, 40s, 50s to me - very much the era of Queen Juliana, but perhaps not to the taste of her daughter, and not the current era for fashionable or desirable vintage, either. Undoubtedly the original setting was saved if it is indeed the same cabochon, so you never know, given a renaissance of that style, we may yet see the necklace again in the original state. Or changed yet again from the current more classical setting into the chunky modern designs favored by Princesses Máxima or Laurentien. Why not remodel some of these beautiful, sentimental, yet not historically important jewels from time to time?

    I think it's a lovely stone (or stones if it is indeed not the same one), and while I don't mind either setting, I probably would have done something more contemporary myself. Alas...
