Well, the aquamarine "first" version was the first with aquamarines but not the original version of that tiara.

That delicate and elegant diamond tiara was worn by Queen Ena in her early years as Queen of Spain, and it had pearls hanging from the arches, it was quite lovely actually.

But Queen Ena became inlove with aquamarines when she saw her cousin Empress Alexandra of Russia wearing them. She asked her husband if he could offered some and he later did. She was a bit afraid of asking for aquamarines to her husband because she thought they would be terribly expensive, since the Romanovs were so wealthy . I read this on HOLA magazine many years ago, an extract from an interview with the Queen on her later years.
She had her splendorous aquamarines set in the frame of this tiara, removing the pearls. It doesn't look balanced at all, such a delicate frame and such huge stones...
Again according to HOLA magazine, the structure of the tiara was getting very fragile because of the weight of the stones, so it was decided to take apart the old tiara and create a new one to display the aquamarines.
And it seems the inspiration came from the Vladimir tiara .

I quite liked the original version, it was very romantic and delicate, it resembled the Connaught tiara.

Check this link on the aquamarines, further down there is a picture of the young Queen Ena with the original version of the tiara, with pearls
