Hi Johan! What is the "diamond and pearl coronet from her mother"? I have never heard anything about it
Regards and thank you!
--Previous Message-- : Several of the jewels of Marie, countess of : Flanders were stolen from the palace she and : her husband lived in. : Not all of them were retrieved. Among the : stolen pieces were a diamond tiara and the : big emerald brooch and pendant. The brooch : returned to the countess as she left it to : her daughter-in-law Queen Elisabeth. The : tiara in the photo may be one of the : unretrieved pieces. : : The diamond and pearl coronet from her : mother was left to the countess' daughter : the Duchess of Vendôme and the pearl tiara : from Stephanie de Beauharnais went to her : granddaughter Marie-José. : This beautiful piece was inherited by : Marie's aunt who married her cousin prince : Gustav Wasa. Their daughter Carola Wasa : became queen of Saxony and wore it as well. : When she died without offspring the tiara : went to her first cousin Marie. She gave it : to her granddaughter who wore it often and a : pair of earrings were added to the tiara. : The tiara itself got an extention so the : princess could wear in on her forhead in the : typical 1920's style. One of Marie-José's : daughters inherited it and auctioned the : jewel off. Today it's displayed in the : castle at Mannheim where the original owner, : Stephanie de Beauharnais, grand duchess of : Baden, spent a lot of her time. : : --Previous Message-- : I would say: if this was a bridal diadem, : then : maybe it was a Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen : diadem and is still in that House (or lost : due to War, communist occupation or : auction)? : : If it was a gift to Princess Marie Luise von : Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen for her marriage to : Prince Albert of Belgium, it is very : difficult to trace since her daughter : Henriette Marie married into the House of : Orléans or maybe it came back into the House : of Hohenzollern by the marriage of her : youngest daughter Joséphine. It looks like a : very nice diadem anyway. : : : : :
