The original Bohemer and Bassange necklace that lead to the Affair of the Queen's Necklace, was taken to London and sold. Some of those diamonds are still in the Sutherland collection, as 22 of the larger stones from the necklace were made into a choker. It is still with the family as far as I know. The rest were sold.

Thus, the "original" necklace is no longer extant and, while the design is well known, the necklace to which you refer cannot be the original.

If it is just a choker of large stone, a single riviere, that could be the Sutherland choker from the original necklace.

If the picture shows the whole necklace with swags and drops, it is merely a copy.

: I was on Pinterest and someone posted a
    : picture, supposedly of "the"
: necklace that started the downfall of Marie
: Antoinette. The claim was that the photo was
: of the original necklace, not a copy.
: I was on the understanding that it had not
: existed, in it's entirety (hope I spelled
: that correctly!) for some time...there may
: be some stones from it in other pieces but
: that is about it. Am I correct?
