I found her whole story interesting. France was having problems long before she arrived and they started putting the blame on her because she was a foreigner. Yes, at first she was a silly, frivolous girl but in the end she was a devoted wife and mother. It is indeed sad. --Previous Message-- : If anyone is interested in the story around : the necklace that helped in the downfall : then read the biography called : "Flaunting Extravagant Queen". : It's a heartbreaking story of her tragic : end. She was a pawn in the game all her : life, very unworldly and naive. I found it : very haunting. : : : --Previous Message-- : I kind of figured it was. I just needed to : have that fact reconfirmed and I knew : someone here would know! : : --Previous Message-- : The original Bohemer and Bassange necklace : that lead to the Affair of the Queen's : Necklace, was taken to London and sold. : Some of those diamonds are still in the : Sutherland collection, as 22 of the larger : stones from the necklace were made into a : choker. It is still with the family as far : as I know. The rest were sold. : : Thus, the "original" necklace is : no longer extant and, while the design is : well known, the necklace to which you refer : cannot be the original. : : If it is just a choker of large stone, a : single riviere, that could be the Sutherland : choker from the original necklace. : : If the picture shows the whole necklace with : swags and drops, it is merely a copy. : : : --Previous Message-- : I was on Pinterest and someone posted a : picture, supposedly of "the" : necklace that started the downfall of Marie : Antoinette. The claim was that the photo was : of the original necklace, not a copy. : I was on the understanding that it had not : existed, in it's entirety (hope I spelled : that correctly!) for some time...there may : be some stones from it in other pieces but : that is about it. Am I correct? : : : : : : :
